Mommys Mundane Workout

As a mom, I know the importance of maximizing every second of the day.  Often times, the gym is not an option and I end up with toddler baths to give, mounds of laundry to fold and ironing to do.  It's times like these that make what I'm about to tell you important.  Ok, you ready....

A Workout does NOT have to be done at the gym or at the track.

As moms, it's our right to get creative and find the valuable seconds that can help us tone and strengthen.

I have found many ways over the past couple years (since E has been around) to do just that.  So I thought I'd show you with the hope that you'll take the time, even if it's for a second to do something for you.

I'm calling it... the Mundane Mommy Workout!  Sounds exciting huh?!  I thought so too!

Ok, Move #1...Bathtime Tone up (i.e. Bathtub Pushups)
If you're kid is anything like mine, he'd sit in the tub long after the water got cold.  He'd sit in there till he pruned up to nothing.  Well, while you're sitting there supervising, why not do a couple push-ups against the tube?

Move #2....Laundry Table Makers (i.e. Wall Sits)
You're just sitting there anyway, bring the laundry basket over to the wall and let your lap serve as the table to fold your clothes.  Watch tv, that should keep you distracted.  Either way, you'll give the lower half a great workout while you get some chores done!

Move #3.....Ironing Makes Sexy Legs (i.e. Calf Raises)
Ahh..Ironing.  My LEAST favorite chore.  I dislike it so much, I usually don't do it.  My husband does.  That's right ladies, my husband vacuums and irons.  Sounds dreamy doesn't it?  I'll let you believe that.  Ok...so now back to the move.. You're already standing there, why not just put your body weight on one leg and do slight raises on that leg.  Your calves will thank you!

Move #4....Plank-A-Rific TV Time (i.e. Planks while watching TV)
So this one's obvious, I know but just let this serve as a reminder that for that brief 20 minutes
a day that you get to watch tv, you could do just a few planks (I'm probably over estimating).

The bottom line is this.  As moms, we keep the family humming.  We have to stay healthy not only for us but for them too.  When you don't get to have the dedicated workout time, you get creative.  Do what you can do when you do it!  Try some of these moves, I promise you won't regret it.

Do you have any creative ways of staying in shape?  We moms have to stick together.

  1. Love this Katie. There are so many different ways that we can incorporate fitness into our daily lives. And that's what it should be about - having a healthy and active lifestyle vs being solely dependent on "gym time."

    1. Can't stand ironing! I have three things I need to do tonight and I'll probably avoid it like the plague.

  4. What a great post and brilliant ideas! While I'm not a mom, I have lots of friends that are and they always say they don't have enough time! Even without kids though, it's easy to make excuses and you just helped take those away from me! Thank you!
