My Health Hiatus

Ok, so I have a confession to make.  I have been eating terribly lately.  Ever since I got back from Hood to Coast, I've been eating whatever I want when I want which is probably why I'm feeling so sluggish and demotivated but I'm declaring this phase OVER and I'm doing it with some help from some new pantry staples.

Barilla sent me these awesome pasta meals which have turned out to be my new best friend at work.  That's the most challenging time of day for me.  I usually have meetings all morning and afternoon.  If I'm lucky and I say "IF", I usually just run down to the cafe and pick up what's ever easiest to grab.  Unfortunately that's usually something fried.  I know, I know...TERRIBLE.

When I got the meals, I knew they were going to fill a void.  They were all going to work with me and when I needed a quick meal, there would be no more going down to the cafe for fried fare...I'd be heating these babies up. So I've had four of them now and I've been very happy.  Although I must confess, I have gone down to the cafe but only to get a cut up chicken breast to give it a little extra protein kick.

Barilla in 60

My Take on Barilla in 60
Barilla in 601. The pasta is GREAT.  NOT slimy.  I have had other "off the shelf" meals in the past and was discouraged to find that the pasta was slimly.  Not at all appetizing.  These meals showed no signs of slime.  The pasta tasted very fresh out of the microwave.  I probably could have eaten the pasta dry (I like it that way too).  OH...and not sure if you noticed but they do make some with WHEAT pasta.  THANK YOU BARILLA!!

2. The sauce has character.  I really like the spicy marinara ones.  They complimented the chicken I added very well.  I do, however, wish they'd make one with the spicy marinara and wheat pasta.

3. The Portion Size is Perfect.  Not too much not too little. Sometimes with the frozen meals, I find myself still hungry after I eat them.  These meals were perfectly portioned to keep me full the rest of the afternoon!

4. Nutrition Facts are pleasing to the health conscious.  All meals are no more than 320 calories and will give you at least 9 grams of protein not to mention on the iron and fiber you're getting from the sauce and wheat pasta.

5. Price Point is budget friendly.  I find that if I just go buy something in the cafe, I end up spending almost $9 bucks.  These meals are only $3.29 and if I buy some chicken I'm still at around $5.  Not bad for a filling lunch.

I can feel it, I'm about to get back on track.  I've been eating well the past couple days thanks to Barilla, I'm getting my runs in.  They aren't super long but they are consistent.  Now all I need to do is get back on track with the weights and I'll feel better in no time.

How do you get your food regime back on track?  What do you eat for lunch?

  1. I need something like these for lunches at work. I don't like to go out and I don't always have leftovers. These would be perfect.

  2. I usually cook up a bunch of chicken or something on Sundays so I'll have enough for lunches for the week. No thinking involved - just gran and go!

    1. Yeah they are great for people who don't cook a lot. They are easy and taste just like it would if you would've made it yourself.

  4. I hate that sluggish feeling when you've not eaten so great. I'm amazed by how different you actually feel when not on track!

Lately it's been salad in a jar for lunch. Tasty and convenient. The Barilla meals look like they're perfect for lunch at work.

  5. Those would be perfect for my husband to take for lunch. He's a PB sandwich guy and could use something a bit more "adult" - if you know what I mean! Thanks for sharing!
