So the fun story. My original hunch was that it was going to be a boy. Don't ask me why, I just did. So you can see how good my gut instinct is.
Even before the appointment day, I wanted to do something with E to get him involved, even though he didn't really understand what was going on. So we made gender reveal cupcakes for work. I try very hard to include E in all these little milestones and try to explain why. Regardless of the reason, he LOVES to "coook" as he says. So I put him in charge of mixing the food coloring into the batter for pink.
Yes, he makes a little bit of a mess but I'm ok with cleaning it up. He really seems to love to cook. Either way, I love the quality time with him.
The morning of the appointment, S and I must have secretly been thinking about it all morning. We get ready in the morning in different rooms, mainly because he has a LOT of clothes so they are stored in the guest bedroom. Anyway, we went about our business, got in our separate cars to head to the appointment and when we walked in, the technician says.."Oh how cute! Did you plan that?" S and I looked at each other completely unaware of the fact that we looked like this...
Yes, I'm wearing a pink shirt and S is wearing blue. We must be more connected to each other than we think. Because we end up dressing similarly alot.
Anyway, I was more nervous this time about just the visit overall than I was to know the gender. When I was pregnant with E, the spotted a kidney issue which we had to watch the remainder of the pregnancy. It scared me so much and I was hoping and praying that we could get a look at a healthy little baby.
The technician walked us through the first couple pictures she took, and indicated that all looked good. So I FINALLY got to use the restroom. Oh yeah, in case you aren't aware, it's best to do these things with a full bladder which is NOT comfortable. Once I felt good about the health, I started looking for signs of gender.
We saw a sweet profile...I love the little nose!
We saw cute little feet!
And then we saw it...the money shot. The one that told ME it was a girl. I blurted out, "It's a girl!". S says.."Wait, what?! How do you know?" (Men are so not good at reading these things. :)I said, you can see the three lines. And there you had it...We were going to be parents to a little girl.
I'm not sure why, but I started to cry. I definitely was NOT disappointed, just happy I think. I'm going to blame it on pregnancy emotions. Whatever it was, I was comforted by a sweet kiss from S and I think, I'm sure he won't fess up to this, but I'm pretty sure I saw a little concern in his eyes.
A little concern now that he was going to have to make sure this little girl was well taken care of and that no one would hurt her. It was a look I'd never seen before on him and it was endearing. He may not get all the girl stuff that is about to come our way but I could tell that he got what being a daddy to a girl was going to mean.
So, the planning has begun. What room will she live in? What will her name be? And all the other fun conversations. So much to do and BUY! I have NO pink things. I'm betting she won't appreciate being put in E's football pjs.
I love blogging because it allows me to capture these moments and not just the outcome but the journey. I hope you take the time, every now and then to capture the special moments in your life.

ReplyDeleteThat is the best feeling, when you find out about this new little person that will be in your life. I still look at my ultra sound pictures of our kids and can remember how I felt at that moment. Now they are 5 x 2 (twins) and 7 ... such a miracle! Congratulations!
