Wordless Monday: Christmas Vacation

Sometimes pictures tell the story better than words.  We spent the Christmas break in Florida with family.  This was the first year without my dad which made the fact that many of our extended family were there even more special.

Hopefully your Christmas was filled with family time and memories. What did you do?

FRS Video Review and Outtakes

Before Christmas I was sent a "sample" of FRS to "try".  I say "sample" because it was a pretty generous box of goodies and I say "try" because it isn't my first experience with FRS.

All FRS products feature quercetin, a powerful all-natural antioxidant found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. It has been shown in multiple clinical trials to provide sustained energy, increased endurance, immune system support along with many other health benefits.
FRS Products

I couldn't wait to open it.  I love the Low Cal Energy.  I took the FRS Powder with me on vacation.  It's the perfect way to travel with it.  While on vacation, I decided to try to tape a little vlog telling you all about my love of FRS (and my families).  We tried a couple of times to get it taped and one of the outtakes was too funny not to include.

Have you tried FRS?  What is your favorite energy source?

Let's Start the Year Off Right

Given my pregnant state, my new year's resolutions are going to take on a different feel this year.  My first one is to get more organized at home and become a better "planner".  One of the things I'm constantly planning are the weekly family meals.

I have been seriously thinking about how I manage my family and one of biggest struggles I face weekly is what to make to eat that is not only new and interesting but also healthy and quick.  I know I'm not alone in this challenge.  Raise your hand if you are in the same boat...

So when I got asked to try out eMeals I jumped at the chance.  What is eMeals you ask?

eMeals offers over 50 delicious meal plans and corresponding grocery lists every week based on food style preferences, family size and the current sales at selected grocery stores.  Dinner menu plans include classic family meals, low-fat, portion control, low-carb, gluten-free, vegetarian, clean eating, paleo, and the natural and organic plan. For more information, please visit www.emeals.com.

I took a look at the website and think I'm going to try Clean Eating for a Family of 3-6 but they have so many options and you can change the meal type at any time.

    How is it possible...

That my heart could possibly have any more capacity to love another child the way I love E?

This kid is the center of my world. He knows me so well and seems to be wise beyond his years.

Take, for example, just tonight. As I'm trying to put him to sleep, I'm laying next to him and my mind starts to drift. Drift to thoughts of my dad, who, if he were here with us, would be having the best week of his year. He loved Christmas week because it almost always meant we were all together and he could just sit back and be so proud and thankful for being apart of it. I could see it in his eyes every year. It's one of the things that I will always remember about him. He was such a proud dad and grandfather and he wore that emotion like a badge.

Anyway, as I was laying next to E tonight, just as he was starting to drift off, he rolled back over to face me, kissed my nose and said "uv you" (Love you). I mean really?! It's like Dad told him to do it. It gave me chills.

But that's also the moment that it hit me..how is it possible that I have anymore capacity to love? How is it possible that my heart is strong enough to love two kids the way they should and have room for everyone else, my husband included?  Is my motherly love strong enough?

I know lots of moms seem to do it and I'm in awe of them. It amazes me.

Call it pregnancy brain or whatever but I started thinking about working out and how there might just be so much more to it than burning calories. That when someone asks me why I work out, I usually give an answer about keeping sane and that's part of it but it's also my chance to work on me...to work on building big strong muscles, my heart included. It's the time I invest in making sure I do have a heart that is strong and capable, not just for pushing me that next mile but also loving. I work through a lot during that time, it's my therapy, it's my outlet.

I'm not entirely sure how to end this post. I hadn't thought that far. Maybe I should end it with a question...why do you workout? How do you make the seemingly impossible possible?

    -Good night

    Just Stopping By..

To Say.. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I'll be enjoying some much needed family time over the next week and hopefully you will be too.

All that hard work we've all put in getting ready for Christmas is about to payoff. I can't wait to see your pictures and stories about the memories you created.

We had a day of flying yesterday and E couldn't have been better. We used all the tricks I mentioned in my last post and by the time we were an hour and half into the flight, this little gem of a moment was handed too us.  Don't mind my belly but seriously?!  How cute is this.

What are you doing for the holidays?

Tips and Tricks for Toddler Travels

It's that time of year!  You know, traveling to see family except if you're a parent to a toddler, you are probably stressing about how you're going to keep your little tyke busy on the plane.

We took E to Florida in October and I know for months ahead of the flight I worried, and planned so before you step on that plane, I thought I'd share some of my tips for traveling with a toddler.

    Plan ahead

    1. Be Techno Ready -  get the iPad or Kindle or whatever technological tool you're planning on taking charged up and loaded with lots of apps.  Make sure you know which apps need WIFI to work and which don't.  On the flight to Hawaii, we had no WIFI so I had to remember which ones he could use.

    Our Favorite Apps:
    • PBSkids.org (needs Wifi) - provides clips from all the kids shows available on PBS.  Keeps E busy for hours.
    • Pocoyo (Needs Wifi) - A british kids character.  The app plays the little 3-5 minute episodes.  It does take WIFI but you can also download them to your iPad so they can be accessed without it.
    • Daniel Tiger's World - (Does not need WIFI) - An app that lets kids explore Daniel Tiger's world.  A great interactive app
    • Elmo's ABCs (Does not need WIFI) - Another interactive app that helps kids learn their ABC's.  It has an option to let them trace the letters.
    • Freshwater HD  (Does not need WIFI) - It's basically a fish tank but it has a choo-choo that drives through it frequently so E loves to watch for it.  You can also feed the fish and play with bubbles.
    • Shapes (Does not need WIFI) - A great interactive app that lets kids learn their shapes.
    • Windosill (Does not need WIFI) - A problem solving app that I originally bought for my husband and I but E has really taken to it.  He loves trying to solve the puzzles.

    2. Snacks, Snacks and Snacks - Variety is key.  We always pack some fruit chews, granola, raisins, and smoothie pouches.  Have it all stashed away in your carry on and bring them out only when necessary.  Also, we took E's cup with us.  That way, when the flight attendant brought drinks, we wouldn't have to worry about spills.

    3. Time Wasters - The dollar store or the dollar isles at Target are the perfect place to shop for these little trinkets.  I think I spent about $10 and got E a plethora of little toys, crayons, games, etc to keep him preoccupied.  In most cases, they may only work for a little while but having variety will keep him busy for a while.  Put each one in a different baggie or wrap it to add to the fun (and time it takes to get to the gift).

    On the plane

    1. Make sure all the goodies are at arms reach and not in the overhead.  Depending on where you sit, getting to those treasures might be a challenge.

    2. Create a comfortable feel.  If you're a nervous traveler, try to think as positively as possible.  Kids sense the nervousness and adds to their nervousness.  If your tot has a teddy, blanket, or other lovie, make sure to have them.  I know we will be taking E's super giant teddy and blanket.

    3. Stay cool.  If a meltdown does happen, try to stay cool.  I know that's easier said than done but keeping a level head will keep everyone on the plane at ease.

    4. Make sure all the things needed for diaper changes are also at arms length.

    5. Have something to drink ready for take offs and landings.  To help them equalize the pressure in their ears.

Hopefully those tips will help you have less stressful travel.  Flying with kids doesn't have to be a nightmare if you're prepared.

    What are your tips?

    Merry Christmas and safe travels!

    Baby Cargo Georgi Bag Review

My husband laughs at me.  He doesn't understand.  Handbags are one of my favorite accessories but to be fair it's more than just handbags.  Know that I'm a mom, my love of functional diaper bags has become "a thing".

So when I came across the Georgi Bag by Baby Cargo, I  knew I had to try it!  I chose a more girlie color which I was excited about.  I love my little man but being able to pick out some girlie stuff is fun.  Baby Nuunie
    georgi bag
When it came, I didn't hesitate to sub it in for my existing diaper bag and it had no trouble fitting the need.

It holds everything E and I could need.  It has plenty of deep pockets on the inside and lots of pockets on the outside for when you just need somewhere to stash your keys for a while.  I took it shopping, the grocery store and the gym and it performed wonderfully.
    Diaper bag functions

The next test will be our annual trip to Florida.  I'll be taking this as my carry on for the plane ride and hopefully it will hold all that is required to keep a toddler preoccupied on the plane.

All in all it's a great bag and I can definitely recommend that you take a look.  Even better, right now you can take advantage of No Sales Tax offer.  Go for it! You won't be disappointed!  This bag truly allows for #RealMomStyle

    DIY: Neighborhood Gifts

We had an absolute blast this weekend.  In the wake of Friday's tragedy, all I wanted to do is be with E.  I wanted to make memories, start traditions, just be a family.  So that's exactly what we did.  I've always wanted to do something nice for my neighbors and the people in our lives that help us out but never got organized enough to do it...until this year.

My original intention was to bake cookies for everyone but I quickly realized that was going to result in me having to back at least 6 dozen cookies and that scared me a little but Friday night E and I tried it.  We made about 2 dozen sugar cookies but weren't entirely happy with the end result so we scrapped it and when to plan B.  But we made a lot of memories along the way.

My mom gave me some of her favorite recipes as my St. Nick gift and one of those was for Hot Chocolate.  This gave me an idea, I'd make those cute jars of Hot Chocolate Mix and a little treat to go along with it.

So Sunday afternoon, my sis and I ran to Michael's and the grocery store to get the supplies:
    Wrapping and Storage:
    1. 8 Tins
    2. 12 Canning Jars
    3. Ribbon

    Hot Chocolate Mix:
    1. 2 Bags of Mini Marshmallows (Peppermint and regular)
    2. 1 Tub of Ovaltine
    3. 26 Oz of Powdered Milk
    4. 6 OZ of Creamer
    5. 1 lb of Powdered Sugar
    6. Cocoa to Taste

    Pretzel/Rolo Turtles:
    1. 1 lb Bag of mini pretzels
    2. 3 bags of Rolos
    3. 2 bags of Pecans

Then it was all hands on deck!

E has always loved helping  me "cooook" so he was thrilled with what we were about to do. Here are the step by step directions:

    Make the Turtles First:
    1. Preheat over to 350
    2. Arrange as many pretzels as you can on a cookie sheet
    3. Unwrap the Rolos and place one on each and every pretzel
    4. Bake for 3 minutes (TOPS, watch them for the point when the chocolate starts to glisten)
    5. Pull them out and place a pecan on each one.
    6. Repeat with another cookie sheet.
    7. Place in a cool place or Fridge to cool

    Hot Chocolate:
    1. Mix all the Hot Chocolate ingredients in a large bowl (I mean large!)
    2. Make yourself a cup by mixing 1/3 cup of the mix into warm water or milk.  (This step is necessary to taste the mix.)
    3. Add more chocolate if needed.
    4. Use a funnel and measuring cup to evenly divide the mix into the jars.  (Ours ended up making 2 servings per jar and we filled 9 jars).
    5. Place assortment of Peppermint and Regular marshmallows to fill the jar. (E loved this step.  Some of them might have been eaten along the way.)
    6. Use the jar lid as a template and cut circles of paper to line the top of the jar.  We put the directions for how to use and a little greeting from us on each.
    7. Use the Ribbon to finish it off with a little bow.

    Fill the tins:
    1. Take the turtles from the fridge and place a dozen in each tin.  (Michael's had all their tins and tin paper liners 70% off!  I got all of them for $19)

The entire process, with help from my sister and "help" from E, took about 2 hours but we made gifts for 9 people.  I hope that everyone will appreciate the time and effort we put into them.  I'm hoping to make this a tradition with E and maybe we'll expand operations to ensure we have enough to take to work and share with more people.

Either way, we loved it and we hope you will too!  If I've left any details out that you need, please let me know and I'll update it.

Do you have any traditions with your kids?

    SPIBelt Review and Giveaway

As runners, we are willing to run just about anywhere.  We'll run on trails, streets, beaches, in forests..on trails you've never been on in the middle of Oregon, you name it, we'll run it even though it might not always be the safest place to run.

That's why it's important to be safe!  So without lecturing you, let's talk about an option to make it easier for you to carry your necessities.

When I talked to SPIBelt about safety, we realized how much the SPIBelt would make it that much easier to carry all the things that will keep you safe.  So we decided to team up to do a review and giveaway.

I have to admit when it came, I got a little worried.  This thing is so small.  How in the world was it going to fit a phone, keys, some money and maybe some other things. So we set to work trying to fill it.  I thought for sure these three things would do it but turns out there was room for tons more.  I know I could have fit GU packs and my inhaler for sure and if I had any mace I probably would've stuffed that in there too.

Wearing it was easy.  It didn't bounce around at all.

I was so happy with it (and the color is adorable) that I wanted to make sure  you all had a chance to get your own.

So it's giveaway time again!  So if you want to win your own SPIBelt, enter below! Winner will be announced Friday, 21st!

Ok Moms, I have been introduced to a brand that I feel I have to share with you.

But before I do, I have a confession and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone).

    I...(gulp)
have a bag fetish..that's no surprise to any of my family.  When E came along, my love affair didn't subside it actually got bigger.  I searched and searched and continue to search for a bag that is convenient, easy to carry, durable and versitle.  This bag seems to meet all that criteria.  I'm pretty sure even my husband would carry this bag.

As I'm nesting for Baby Nuunie, I'm all about maximizing my effeciency.  I am scouring the industry for time savings products.

    Product Details:

With the ingenious Georgi bag on handle, your bottles are stowed, your hands are free, and your “put together” style quotient just went up.

Brass details like grommets that slide smartly over your umbrella stroller handles and stylishly zippered seams lend heft and style, at once. But what transforms Georgi from fashion item to stroller bag “must” is versatility: beautiful lightweight fabric, a sturdy shoulder strap that snaps to your full-service stroller bar, and a wealth of pockets mean everything stays neatly in place.

    • Beautiful lightweight fabric, brass details & stylishly zippered seams
    • Universal Handle Hooks
    • Brass grommet rings for umbrella strollers

    _______________________________

First off, thank you for all the comments on my last post.  Part of why I love this community is because we all share.  I learn a lot by understanding how you all are making fitness work.  I don't know what baby nuunie will have in store for me but I know I'm motivated and inspired by you all to make it happen!

One of the things I'm most proud of this year, is being named one of Oiselle Athletes.   That means that next year, after Baby Nuunie is born, I'll have even more motivation to get back at it.  Because I'll be representing Oiselle in my races by sporting their clothes and just basically talking it up, which was doing anyway.
    running clothes

If you haven't checked out the Oiselle team, you should.  They are serious runners!  I'm so humbled to be part of it.  I am definitely going to work to make them proud next year.

My obsession with Oiselle started last year when I found the Roga Shorts at my local running store.  I wore them once and was hooked.  I wore them at Hood to Coast, and if I weren't pregnant, I'd be wearing them now.

I love them because as running shorts go, they don't bunch up between my thighs.  The material is light and waist band is flattering on EVERYONE.

Then, during Hood to Coast, many of the girls got to go visit the Oiselle team and even brought us all back an amazing tshirt which quickly became one of my favorites.  It's the best shirt to wear with jeans and just be comfortable.

Then when the Rundelicious and Stripey shirts came out, I fell in love all over again!  I saw some ladies on Instagram wearing them and knew I HAD to own them.   And finally, the Runfinity Scarf.  What can I say? I'm knew to scarves but when I saw this one, I knew even I could figure out how to wear it. SO, I bought it for Christmas and told S that he had bought me a scarf. :) He was happy to know that he bought me something I really wanted.

If you haven't been formerly introduced to Oiselle, I want to make sure you do.  So I'm giving away one Oiselle short sleeve t-shirt of your choice.  I know that once you put it on, you'll be hooked.

So, let's play our giveaway game! You have a few ways you can enter:
    1. Go to Oiselle.com and leave me a comment telling me what your favorite Oiselle item is.
    2. Follow Oiselle on Twitter, and leave me a comment telling me you did
    3. Follow Me on Twitter, and leave me a comment telling me you did

    Is it too much?

So lately I've been stressing a little.  I've been stressing about how I'm going to get 2 kids in bed before 8:30 and still workout, make dinner and give baths all after work.

I didn't go to the gym last night and doing all the other things had me getting E down at 8:30.  That's when I really realized just how important it is going to be to TRY to become a morning person.  Having that done by the time the day starts is going to free up my nights to do all the other stuff that has to be done.

Now, realize, I know there is NO way I'm going to be able to do this while school is still going on.  I do all my studying after E goes to bed.  So that's basically, 9:30 - 11:30 p.m..   Then I get to sleep and end up getting almost 7 1/2 hours but every day I wake up dragging.  You would've thought I was functioning on 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

Then last night something happened...E woke up at about 5:00ish and instead of dragging my butt out of bed, to go get him, I found myself instantly wide awake.  There was no yawning, no slow moving. It was like I could have gone to run right then and there.

As I was rocking E back to sleep (because it's way easier to get ready for work with him asleep), I started to think...am I getting too much sleep?  Is there a natural wake up time for my body that doesn't leave me groggy?  Do  I operate better on less sleep?  Weird thing is, I never wake up early...NEVER.  So if this is some natural wake up time for my body, it seems to be ignoring it too.

It did give me a little glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe one day I could be a morning person.  So I ask the morning crew...

What time do you go to sleep?  What time do you wake up?  How does your morning go?  How much of a workout do you actually get in?  How long does it then take you to get ready for your day?

I'm just curious, how I would go about getting myself organized enough to do this.

Sesame Street Live + Promo Code

Ever since E was about 1, he has loved Sesame Street.  I've always taken so much joy out of watching him dance to the opening song and yelling to me at the top of his lungs every time Elmo comes on.  So when I found out Sesame Street Live was coming to STL in January, I knew we had to go.
When I was younger, my mom took me to seek Sesame Street Live on Ice and we STILL talk about how during the performance, I ran up on stage with a bag full of cookies and fed Cookie Monster.  Who knows, maybe I'll even run into Cookie Monster and he'll remember me.  ;)  So many good memories that I hope to have with E.

The best part is that the performance is based on the DVD that we have been watching on repeat since about January of this year.   E is going to know EVERY song!

When Elmo gets his furry fingers on Abby Cadabby's magic wand, there's something in the air - and Sesame Street becomes a nonstop, all-singing, all-dancing musical montage! Grover and Baby Bear sing their highs and lows, Cookie Monster sings fast and slow, Bert and Ernie converse in song and Murray makes mouth music for all to sing along! Learn why it feels good to sing a song, but why it feels good to stop, too! What will Elmo learn about the power of musical magic? Join the conga line of fun to find out!

I asked my husband if we could go and after I heard him take it all in, he agreed. (Such a good dad!).  I'm hoping that I can convince him to let us go early so E can play in the new Play Zone.  How cool does this sound?

Come and Play BEFORE the Show! VEE Corporation introduces Play Zone at Sesame Street Live - a fun new way for children to experience their favorite street! Imagine your child sitting in Big Bird's nest, popping up in Oscar's trash can, twirling in Zoe's dance studio or visiting Elmo's World. You never know who'll make an appearance! Families won't want to miss a single picture-perfect moment. Play Zone opens one hour before the show - best of all, Play Zone is FREE with your Sesame Street Live ticket!

I don't know about you but how cool would it be to have a FaceBook profile photo of you and your kid sitting in Big Bird's nest.  :)  The kid in me thinks that sounds awesome.

If you're not in STL, check out the full schedule to see when Elmo and gang will be in your city!

Have you ever taken your child to a show like this?  What are your favorite memories or advice?  I'd love to know what I'm getting myself into.  :)

    We're Throwing Snowballs

Even though it's almost 70 degrees here in STL, I'm feeling like throwing some snowballs at some of my favorite bloggers and posts.

Fabulous Bloggers - Heads up bloggers...I have a snowball with your name on it.  Don't worry, I through it out of love!  Everyone has their "go to" bloggers.  People they connect with and enjoy keeping up with.  Here's a great list of mine:

    1. Christine - Love Life Surf - Christine is a mom of 2 boys a little older than E.  Her personality, mindset and drive make her one of my favorites.

    2. Angela - Happy Fit Mama - Another amazing mom.  The name of the game with Angela is practicality.  She's always providing useful information.  One of these days I'm going to link up to her Weekly Meal planning.

    3. Michelle - NYCRunningMama - Another Mom (seeing a trend here?).  Michelle just recently became a mom of two and her love of running is pretty inspiring.  She helps me remember why I love running.  Also, she really needs your help right now as she tries to accomplish one of her dreams (and one of mine)

    4. Laura - Mommy Run Fast - A mom of one and so motivational, Laura's blog is fun!  There's always something to do and that you can be

    5. Madeline - Food Fitness and Family - I love Madeline!  We've had a chance to meet a few times and run together.  She's a mom to one and an army wife and just a wonderful person.  You have to check her blog out.

    6. Maria - Lift Love Life - A fellow Preggo and fitness buff, I love Maria.  She's a beautiful person that is always letting you into her life.  She's super easy to connect with.  She's a mom to a crazy little boy too so we have that in common.

    7. Pavement Runner - Gotta represent some of the guys.  Pavement Runner is a dad, runner and all around good guy.  His blog is full of fun and motivation.  You can always find songs to add to your playlist and maybe a little inspiration to run that extra mile.

Hopefully those guys have successfully ducked my attempt to through a snowball.  :) And if you're looking for even more amazing bloggers, might I suggest you check out the ladies of my Hood to Coast team, as well as the MANY members of FitFluential or SweatPink.  All of which are on Twitter for you to easily fine.  Just search #FitFluential or #SweatPink and last but not least, you can always find many other runners by checking out the lady runners of Team Oiselle

Wanna link up and throw some snowballs?  Just grab this image and link to this post when you do.

    Oh and DUCK!!  Incoming!

Who are some of your favorites?
