Wednesday Words of Wisdom
There comes a time in any training plan or goal attainment plan where you can hit the wall, get into a rut, burn out, or just plain feel like quitting.
I bet if you ask any seasoned runner or triathlete, they could tell countless stories of their experiences. But the proverbial "wall" can be felt in all areas of life.
If you're feeling it right now, I'm here to tell you...stay the course, keep your eye on the prize!
If reaching goals was an easy endeavor, it wouldn't be a goal, it wouldn't be rewarding.
Between waiting for the baby to arrive and getting through school, I've had to give myself a lot of pep talks. So I figured if I was needing a little boost, maybe you were needing a little pep talk too!
We are all here to help each other, pick each other up.
So..this is me telling you.. You got this! Hang in there! Keep your eye on the Prize!
Are you feeling a little burned out right now? What are you training for that has you feeling a little challenged?
Love this post Katie! I hit the wall a couple of weeks ago, but everyone was so encouraging to me. After a couple of days and a couple of good workouts I started to gain my confidence back. I have been training for this marathon since November and I still have 11 weeks to go. It seems like I have been training forever, but I know that due to my injury I needed to build up my mileage slow. My long runs back in the fall were only 6 miles. Now I am almost up to 22 miles.
ReplyDeleteThank YOU Katie! I've definitely been in a bit of a dip and burned out. I need to remind myself to keep my chin up. And you - you are so almost there. Hang in there. Just a few weeks left. I remember with #2, I pretty much felt done with being pregnant at 20 weeks and more or less willed him out at 37 weeks. I was so uncomfortable the second time around. I'm in awe of how you're keeping up with everything.

I am at the point in my marathon training where I just am sick of it, I have 5 weeks to go, I'm am peaking so the work is tough, and I'm burnt out, although I know this is a very normal reaction, I am still draggin my feet to get workouts done and it stinks. You hang in there, you've got so many things going on and it's tough at the end of a pregnancy, you're almost there, just give a little more Ms. Katie, hang on baby.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am training for a half marathon but the weather has been so cold that I have been doing my runs on the treadmill and it is wearing on me!! 10 miles on a treadmill (watching an entire movie) is getting a little monotonous, hoping to get outside this weekend
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm not following a plan right now and I'm feeling burnt out on that. I like to follow plans for awhile, then need a break, then crave plans again. I need a plan!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely can all use a pep talk now and then! I am in a rut with my running. I had taken a little time off from it and now am into my third week of training harder and increasing my mileage, but it seems as though at least 3 out of my 6 runs each week I have to force myself out the door and then I'm doomed for a hard run. Maybe I need to rest days or a cross-training day and 1 rest day... Suggestions?

ReplyDeleteI am training for marathon #5 which doesn't have me too stressed yet, but I am doing my first half-iron this summer which has me literally at wits end trying to figure out how I am going to make it happen.
Thank you for this! I am having major MAJOR motivation problems lately and just can't get my head into races. I'm fine with training but when race day rolls around, I want to curl up and quit. Not good :(
ReplyDeleteI am working on improving my running and there are times when I feel like giving up. I would go on days (even a week!) without going out to run but my motivation often returns at the right time. I think we all go through the same situation. It's human nature. But what matters is we bounce back... more motivated.
