Watch Out Rock 'n' Roll Chicago and St. Louis!

I have exciting news for you!  Now that I'm back to running, I couldn't be happier.  I missed it so much.  I've been dying to figure out what race would be my first.  I already have the Rock'n'Roll St. Louis on the books but that's not till October.  I ran it last year and loved it.  I knew I wanted something before that.

Rock n Roll St. Louis

About the time I started looking around I got an email from a little race organization asking if I'd be interested in running one of their races.  It took me a little while to decide if it was something I wanted to do reason being I'd have to travel and with 2 small kids and graduate school still in session, I really just didn't know if I could handle it especially without having a treadmill (until today!), I knew my training time would be extremely limited.

Then I made some changes, talked to my husband about it and bought a treadmill.  All these led me to agree and now I can tell you that I'll be following in PavementRunner's footsteps (or strides) and running the Midwest for the Rock 'n' Roll Series by running both the St. Louis Half (October) and the Chicago Half (July).

I know!  Hot right!?  Good thing they are equipping the course with ice towels and sponges, misting stations, post race smoothies, popsicles, and towels.
Rock n Roll Chicago

Yes, I know it's about 8 weeks away so I'm marking this a "B" race.  I'm going to training but I'm not planning to PR here.  I don't want to push my post baby body too far too fast.  Either way, it will be fun to do a destination run (even if it is only 5 hours away) and meet new people.

I'm thinking about a training plan and think I need to consult a professional so any of you running coaches, I'd love any advice you'd like to give!  ;)

So here's where it gets good for you...the nice people at Rock 'n' Roll want to help me help you.  If you're thinking about running, and I hope you are because I'd love to hang out with some pretty awesome runners, you can get $10 off your registration by using the code for both Chicago and St. Louis:

Promo Code for St. Louis and/or Chicago for $10 Off: MomsLRB
Don't forget to check PavementRunner's site for Discount on West Coast races.

Also the price increases on June 1st so register now for the best price.  Keep an eye on the Rock 'n' Roll site or follow my twitter feed and I'll let you know if any other discounts come out but my advice, don't wait.  Secure your spot, start training!

I'm really excited for a little fit-cation.  S and I need a little time away and Chicago's the perfect road trip from STL.

What's next for you?  Where should we eat in Chicago?

  3. I've done Chicago twice! It's a fun one, but it gets pretty hot! Gino's East or Pizzeria Uno for deep dish pizza!

  4. Congrats on signing up! I could use a fit-cation too! Love your attitude about going out, having fun, and not pushing your body too hard after baby. I'm getting very close to signing up for a fall marathon, but I want to wait a little longer before making it official.

  5. I've been throwing around the idea of either running races again or signing up for a crossfit competition. I can't decide, but I tossed and turned thinking about it!

  10. I would love to run in Chicago sometime. I am afraid that I would melt if I were to run there during the summer. I am sure that you will have a fabulous time though.

  11. Good luck Katie! I need a running buddy - I'm toying with the idea of running a half in STL this fall, but I'm worried I won't stay committed to the training schedule if I go solo. Maybe we should start an STL Support Group! Haha

  12. Can I use the code for 2014 races??? ;) haha, I'm already getting a little race bug, but it will have to wait a few more months... like at least 6!

  13. I was registered for Chicago last year but I couldn't swing travel expenses in the end.

I have absolutely nothing on the schedule right now. It's quite an odd feeling, but I'm tackling my debt so I can get married and start a family.

  14. Congrats! That's awesome that you are running Chicago half. I'm looking at doing the big Chicago marathon next fall (2014). Love that town :)
Running coach advice - concentrate on building your base right now. Ease into any speedwork. Have fun!
