Did you know that after 30-45 minutes of any intense activity, your body runs out of natural energy? The best way to replenish that without stopping to eat an entire meal is through the use of products that can deliver quick energy (glycogen) to your muscles without crippling your stomach.
If you're an endurance athlete you probably know that GU is the industry standard for refueling on the go. I love it. I have been a fan for a long time. Gu is so popular that it's usually handed out on the courses of many marathons and triathlons which is primarily how I would replenish my stash. Every time I saw someone handing them out, I would take them. Lately I have been loving the Roctane line.
So when they asked me to try their two new Roctane flavors (Strawberry Kiwi and Passion Fruit), I couldn't say no. Then they told me that the proceeds from the sale of the Passion Fruit Flavor was going to benefit Challenge for Kids, I knew I wanted to do more than just tell you about flavor. I wanted to make sure that you knew that when go out and buy a Passion Fruit flavor (and do it soon, its a limited time flavor), you're going to give kids who have been through a traumatic experience a chance at living an athletic, healthy life. As a mom, that really resonates with me.
The timing of this partnership is PERFECT. Rock 'n' Roll Chicago is next weekend and the following weekend I'll be competing in a triathlon locally so I was going to go out and buy a few since I haven't run a half since last October.
So yesterday, on my last long run, I took the Strawberry Kiwi flavor with (thankfully I'm able to run again, my little injury seems to have cleared up) and it did not disappoint. It is now competing with Pineapple (which tastes like a lifesaver) for my top flavor choice.
I followed the directions for usage (as seen below) and paired with Nuun to maximize my intake and was able to pump out 9 miles without any problems.
I wish I could tell you how the passion fruit flavor tastes but I'm going to leave that to you to tell me. I'm giving away, a box of the Passion Fruit flavor to two winners to help you keep your energy levels up during your next long run or bike or whatever it is that you need sustained energy for.

ReplyDeleteBoring old me, I love the "just plain", it's the go-to while racing. While training, I am a little more adventurous with the peanut butter or strawberry-banana for caffeine free, or the espresso love, cherry-lime roctane when looking for a little extra kick.
