Training has been going pretty well. I need to do more brick workouts but individual workouts were great, that is until this week. I've had an injury reappear that I first got Delivering Allie so I haven't run since Thursday. I'm frustrated and impatiently waiting for it to heal. I've called the doctor and I'm hoping relief is in sight.
In the meantime, I've been doing a lot of swimming this week. I have been asked what I've been using for my swim workouts and I have some books with workouts in them but somehow I've morphed them all into a workout that I do about every other time. I posted it to Facebook and was asked to make it pinnable so here it is for your enjoyment (Here you go Kristen).
I would say it's good for a Sprint and possibly early training of an Olympic distance triathlon. It's fun and not monotonous which is my big problem with the pool.
Next week is the Rock 'n' Roll Half in Chicago. My first half since last October and missing this many days of running is frustrating but I can't let it bother me. I know I will finish just might not be as fast as I would've liked.
Either way, after every workout, I have a routine. I usually head straight to the fridge. Before the run, I always pre-make a bottle of Nuun and most of the time a bottle of chocolate milk but I was out last week and knew I needed some protein after my long runs so I improvised. I made Protein Popsicles.
I found these cute plastic bags on Pinterest, ordered them have been playing with options ever since. I used the Zipcicle bags, a packet of lemonade Designer Whey Protein in Lemonade flavor, a Cherry Limeade Nuun and water but you could use any combination.
1. Mix the Protein in water
2. Mix the Nuun in another cup of water
3. Mix together
4. Pour into bags
5. Freeze
They will make the perfect "Go To" refreshing protein source when I need the protein or just a cold snack on a hot day.
Couple other random things. I owe you a 12 week update. Allie was 12 weeks old as of yesterday so that is coming soon. I have my last full weekend of school this weekend so I just need to get past that and it will be easier to get a post full of cuteness and post baby body updates.
Do you swim? If so, what do you think about in the pool? I can't think about too much or I'll forget what lap I'm on.

Wow, I can't believe she is 12 weeks old already! Time flies so fast.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your triathlon training is going well. Swimming is definitely not my strong suit (and the reason I've only done two sprint triathlons in my life!).
I know! She's growing up so fast!
DeleteI just did my first OWS last night. Swimming still terrifies, especially OW, but it went really good. I always thought running would be my strongest area, but I am getting really strong on the bike too. I am loving the switch up in my training and can't wait for my first triathlon on 8/3. Can't wait to hear how yours goes too!
ReplyDeleteOWS can be scary but I'm glad it went well for you!!
DeleteLove the swim workout idea...if I had any water where I lived (prarie girl!). Not many people make workouts with water...so you are just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI cant think about anything either---which is why I LOVE THE POOL :)
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely something tranquil about it.
DeleteYUM - I am going to have to make the popsicles. After my runs here I am a messs - it's SO humid! These would be a perfect treat.
ReplyDeleteI hear it's more humid where you are than STL.
DeleteYou're just a machine lately girlie - awesome job! I am getting into the pool with my hubby on active rest days - I doggie paddle but still think that counts ;)
ReplyDeleteawe! Thanks! Doggie Paddling DOES count!! :)
Deleteprotein popsicles?! perfect for this crazy heat and humidity we always have in stl! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally!
DeleteSorry you are injured! I hope it is a quick blip on the screen. I am a swimmer and sometimes triathlete (actually started as one before I focused so much on running). Totally agree, I can't let my mind wander too much b/c I will lose count. That's one reason I have never tried a waterproof walkman--afraid I'd completely lose track!
ReplyDeleteI just can't imagine how those waterproof walkmans work. Seems so strange to me.
DeleteI'm pretty horrible at swimming... I feel like I do more flopping around in the water than moving forward. It might not help that in my head I think I have to get to the other side at max speed 100% of the time. But practice means I'll get better right? Love the zipsicle bags --- super handy!
ReplyDeletePractice does make perfect!
DeleteI swim but only because I needed to getting ready for my 70.3 this weekend. I don't love it yet, maybe one day. I had to buy a little lap counter for my finger or I would always forget what lap I was on. Totally worth the money. Slowly I've grown to like getting in the pool for laps, but I am not at the point where I can zone out and just relax like I can with running or cycling.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you are dealing with an injury but its good you have been able to still be active and get in the pool!
Oh wow! Good luck! 70.3 is on my bucketlist for next year. :)
DeleteWait, that's so simple and so genius. EAsy protein in a frozen summer treat! Thanks for that stroke of brilliance!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI definitely need to make these popsicles - gotta love the Florida heat and humidity!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the injury :( I have definitely had to scale back because my body has not been super excited about my return to running. Stupid hormones are still jacking up my ligaments. It's hard because I want to push myself harder, but I know it's not worth it.
It sucks!
DeleteYour protein pops look good, and you know I'm a sucker for anything that includes Cherry Limeade Nuun! Keep up the tri training! You're almost there! xo
ReplyDeleteI knos!!! I love the cherry limeade!
DeleteFantastic idea on the pops! I gotta make those soon. Hope the injury clears up and is only a little blip.
ReplyDeleteI was a competitive swimmer (years ago), and a shoulder injury is what ultimately led me to running. I still swim laps 2x a week, and when I was competing in triathlons, I'd often do more. There are still times I lose count of laps though! I like to have a workout in mind because otherwise I get bored, plus breaking up the swim into different sets makes the time go faster. A new aquatic center just opened up with a 50-meter pool. It's been YEARS since I swam long course, and I forgot how different (hard) it is! You think you'll never reach the other end!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. I wish I had a swimming background!
DeleteWow! That was really fast, can't believe that she's already 12wks old. Happy for you!! Anyway, love the idea of swimming, you can go with the pool as it will also increase your speed, agility, endurance, and etc. :)
ReplyDeleteI know! She's talking and holding her head up. :)
DeleteCreating a swim workout is a great way to try something new. Why run on the treadmill when you can race through the cool waters? Your body will appreciate the change of environment and much needed exercise.
