I tried to go longer yesterday. I had 8 planned but between the heat, hills and humidity I just didn't.
| Soooo hott |
I am loving the 5K speed training, lots of intervals, and tempo runs but if I even stand a chance at getting through Chicago I need to think longer slower miles.
I'm looking forward to that weekend because they have 5K on Saturday and then the half Sunday. I'm thinking of make the 5K my "A" race and just managing through the half. I'm thinking lots of selfie stops on the half route word is Pavement Runner is gonna be around so I'm pretty sure the race selfies will be in full effect.
Wanna come run with me? You can still sign up for both the 5K and Half. You can take $10 off the half with code: "MomsLRBCHI" Sign Up Now!
So I guess my questions are:
Do you have conflicting goals?
Can you train for a short distance goal and a long distance at the same time?
Good luck with the races, no way I could train for a 1/2 marathon here in the summer. Although I did it all the time in Houston for early fall full marathons when I was younger. Sheez, the longest I've gone in a while is 4.5 miles
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how hot it must be down there! 4.5 is respectable!
DeleteMy college coaches words have always stuck with me-- "If your not fast at the 5K, you won't be fast at the marathon" pretty sure he meant train for them at different times, but never wrong to throw a 5K in your marathon or half training to see what your speed is.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that makes a lot of sense. I can't imagine what college running was like! How fun that must have been!
DeleteI love the 5K! Probably my favorite distance:) I don't do well in heat or humidity so I completely understand not wanting to run those last few miles. Good luck in the half!
ReplyDeleteMe too! The more I race it, I mean really race it, the more I love it!
DeleteI think it's hard to train for a 5k time at the same time as a distance race. I prefer the distance races bc I hate speed work which prob explains why I don't have a fast 5k time! LOL. I kind of figure if I'm going to get up early, get there and run I might as well make it worth it! You should come to the DC RnR race in March it;s so much fun! Confessions of A Mother Runner
ReplyDeleteI get your reasoning. That's usually how I am but there has been something about gutting out a fast 5K that has me enamored.
DeleteYou totally have this!! I totallyunderstand where you are coming from with switching gears: run fast/run long/low heart rate/lift weights etc. Sometimes I feel like I am the MOST ADD when it comes to my own personal fitness goals!
ReplyDeleteBasically what I want to say is... go out and have fun in Chicago! Rock your 5K and ENJOY the half!! :) You can do it! :)
I think that's going to be my plan! :)
DeleteI think that's a great plan to make the 5k your A race, and just enjoy the half... regardless, I'm sure it will be an awesome weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be great. I'm praying for mild weather though. We will see if it works out.
DeleteI"m so excited for MLRB and Pavey selfies!!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I really wish I could've met you in San Francisco. One day!
DeleteI am the exact opposite. I prefer to run slow and long, but am trying to get a 5K Pr which requires speed work that I just always seem to find a way to turn into a normal slow run.
