Moms Make the Best Endurance Athletes

For National Running Day, I did just that, went on a run.  I am without my Bose ear buds because they are replacing them thanks to a great warranty so I had no choice but to go "naked running".  I always dread going for a run without music at first but I end up loving it.  I always think about the most random things.  Today's random topic:

Why Moms make great Endurance Athletes

I realized there are a few distinct qualities that this so:

Patience - As moms, we are always exercising patience.  We know that things don't happen immediately and that instant gratification isn't real.  When training for a marathon or anything like that, we take it day by day knowing that gains will come with hard work.

Dedication - There are many times we run when we're pushing one, two or even three kids in a stroller.  The reason we do that is because we know that if we don't, we won't get to run.  It's that dedication that keeps moms rolling!

Respect - On days where long runs are scheduled and a mom actually does get to go sans kids, they appreciate and respect the time.  The make sure every second they have to train is not wasted.

I know there has to be more so what do you think?  What qualities make moms good endurance athletes?

  1. I agree with you! I value my alone running time like nothing else. It doesn't happen often, so when I have the chance my sneakers are on and I'm out the door!

  2. I agree that you learn patience on a whole new level as a mummy and patience is needed to endure the ups and downs of any training program.

I think having grown and given birth to a baby has given me insight into just how amazing, strong and capable my body is. Before becoming a mummy I think I underestimated what I was capable of... Not anymore. Setting those sights higher now. What's a couple of tough Ks compared to pregnancy or childbirth!

  4. I couldn't agree with you more! I am a much better runner now that I've had a baby. I also think that as moms, we work extra hard at setting good examples of what it takes to be a healthy and fit person. A huge part of why I run is because I hope that one day, my son will see how much happiness and confidence comes with being physically fit.

  5. I'm not a mom, but I've heard so many of my mommy friends say that they are a billion times stronger, as a runner, now that they're parents. They don't know if its the changes that happen in the body through pregnancy and child birth, or if it's the things you learn along the way as a parent -- but they all agree that it's true.
