Well, Pavement Runner has done it again. Had I not gone over and read his posts, I wouldn't know that it's Dog Week! I don't know about you but I think I'll celebrate with a rawhide....Not for me silly...for my 4 legged buddy.
I don't think I've ever really talked about her but she's a constant presence in our house and we like it like that!
Zoey is our 11 year old (maybe older, we're not really sure) German Shepard Mix. The story behind how she came to be a permanent resident in our home is kind of interesting so I thought it would be worth sharing. So kick back, relax, and enjoy!
About 6 or 7 years ago, I use to work with a guy who was very involved in local dog rescue. He was supporting a group called the "Senior Dog Project" by acting as a foster parent for these dogs since this group doesn't have a shelter.
So I went down to the local Petco one Saturday to see who just what little furball would be coming home with me. What I saw was the greatest group of pups, I could've imagined and they were all 5 years old or older.
I looked at an amazing basset hound, but he had a home then I saw Zoey just sitting in her cage, chilling. Not at all interested in trying to impress the potential parents. It was that attitude that made me want to foster her.
So I got the leash, signed a couple papers and promised I'd bring her back next Saturday so she could hopefully find a good home. As you can see that never happened. You see, she and my, then boyfriend now husband, bonded like you wouldn't believe. If S would go take a nap, he'd take Zoey with him. We would go for Sunda night snowcones and Zoey got one.
I knew right then and there, this dog had become part of my family.
