The Turkey Trot That Wasn't

On Thanksgiving, I started the day at a Turkey Trot in Kirkwood.  You couldn't beat the weather and I had every intention of trotting the race (10:00 minute mile).  After all, I am pregnant and don't want to over do it.  ;)  I even tried getting E to go with me but he wanted to stay home with daddy.

So I went by myself, which I have no problem doing.  Would I love to do it as a family?  Yes, maybe someday but right now, it's just me.

I was at the starting line ready to stroll through the course.  It was a beautiful day and I just wanted to enjoy it until...

I got closer to the start line.  The number of people participating was huge.  It took me about 3 minutes to get to the start line after the race started.  The closer I got the more I didn't want to stroll anymore.  I knew I wasn't going to PR today being 18 weeks pregnant but I would've been a little disappointed if I hadn't given it my best effort.

So mile 1 was the worst. SOOO many people. I spent more energy just bobbing all the people. Second mile was pretty good and the last mile was the best. It definitely wasn't a PR but I will call it a pregnancy PR. I finished in 28:02.  I'll call that my pregnancy PR.

I felt so good after the race even though my IT Bands were screaming.

I was happy that for almost 30 minutes, I didn't focus on being pregnant.  I got lost in the run. I got lost in the excitement and energy.  It reminded me why I love running. It was also my first run on Team Oiselle

I think it was definitely a brillian run!  How was your Thanksgiving?  Did you run?  Did you workout?  I hope you had a great day!

  1. Congrats! Those are the kinds of runs that always bring you back to the sport. I did a short tempo run at the gym on Thanksgiving.

  6. I did a 5 mile turkey trot, but walked quite a bit because I did it with a friend who is a super new runner & I wanted to support her & not leave her behind. It was still super fun. I love the idea of starting out Thanksgiving running.

  8. As in MO? Because that's where I am. Not Kirkwood but close enough. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to keep up with your pregnant self. One day! It was pretty here this weekend though. Really nice for running outside.

    1. Yes, Kirkwood MO. I would've loved to run with you. Looks like there were a few of us running. Are you part of the STL Bloggers group?

  10. Oh a whole 30 minutes all to yourself! That sounds so nice:-) Now that we have #2 it has been harder and harder to get that alone time that I need! Especially since I've been taking it easy post partum and not running (my pelvic floor didn't hold up during delivery as I would have liked). I can't wait to get back out there! Good for you for running! And such an awesome time!

  11. Great race! I can't believe you can still run that fast while pregnant. You beat my (non-pregnant) time on Sat. LOL

  12. I ran my first Turkey Trot 10K this year. Have to say, it was a lot of fun and definitely something I want to keep as a new Thanksgiving tradition :-) Heck, I just want to do more races in general. I ran my first half-marathon in November and have two trail runs coming up in December.

So far, I'm loving every minute of it!
