I picked up a lot of tips and tricks along the way and now that I'm traveling again for work, I'm finding myself slipping back into old habits with a new "mommy" twist.
So I thought I would share with you 5 Tips for healthy travel.
- Plan Ahead: Routine is not a word that is synonymous with travel. You have to be prepared and when the opportunity to workout presents itself, you have to take it. Look at your options ahead of time. Look for running groups or boot camp classes that you could join
- Gym Going On The Fly: We all know hotel gyms are not necessarily the best but sometimes that's all you have to work with. When that happens, consider taking advantage of all the my "Do Anywhere" Workouts. Depending on where you are and what hotel you are at, ask the front desk if they have any partnerships with local gyms. Sometimes you can get a free guest membership while you're staying there. The Renaissance in Pittsburgh was great about this.
- Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep: This is especially important to be aware of when you travel. It's easy to let the task at hand get the best of you but I always travel with a Nuun water bottle and plenty of nuun.
- Pack For Versatility: I love Oiselle for so many reasons but especially when traveling because their clothes are so versatile. I try to pack workout clothes that can serve as casual clothes as well. The Rundelicous top is perfect and so are their stripey shirts.
- Safety First: If you're a runner like me and like to explore new cities, make sure you do it safely. Don't go alone if possible but if you have to, make sure you're equipped with phone, money, keys and GoSportID if possible.

Great tips. I'm lucky that I don't have to travel too often. I especially love #3. It is so important to get enough sleep.

ReplyDeleteas you said :-)
if it is important to you---PLAN FOR IT.
I usually make do with the hotel gym, or go for a run outside if I feel safe. Some hotel gyms are fantastic, while others are pitiful! I think the worst was one that had an I Love Lucy era exercise bike. :-)

ReplyDeleteDefinitely plan ahead! I usually pick my hotel based on the gym or accessible running if I can.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I haven't had any major business trips lately, but I've racked up my fair share of miles in the past. I even schlepped my breast pump around the world to keep up my supply when I had to travel when my girls were little. I love to run when I travel. It's an awesome way to see more of a place, especially when I'm stuck in business meetings for most of the time I'm there. One of my favorite travel runs was with a Japanese colleague. We ran up a trail to an old castle in Germany. It was awesome!
