Wanted...Running Buddy

This past Sunday, during the half, I ran into a friend and we ran together for a little while and I can't tell you how nice it was.  I have forgotten what it's like to run with someone since I run predominately by myself.

I'm thinking of placing a "want" ad in the paper but I need your help.  Here's what I have so far:

Looking For Running Buddy
Seeking Running Buddy
So my question...

What do you look for in a running buddy?

  1. I love that you are doing this! I so want a running buddy! Maybe put some of your interests outside of running, the times you can usually get out, and some adjectives about your personality.

  2. ok you 2 seriously have to join a Moms Run This Town chapter!! There has to be one near you. MRTT has changed my life and you will always have someone to run with. It's so much more fun that way. If you need help finding one let me know. Deborah @ http://confessionsofamotherrunner.com/

  3. LOL I am in the same place. My running partner moved across town. While I do love my solo runs, I am terribly missing our morning wake-up runs. It's fun to run and laugh before work!

  5. I moved and miss my running buddies! I love my friends who keep my pace and don't mind talking with me while we run! (And shutting up when appropriate too lol.)

  6. I'm so with you - and am working hard to get my MRTT chapter up and running. We've got 2 consistent people and a few occasional people, but I need a bigger tribe. Good luck.

  7. I've been looking for one, too! Although I won't make a very good buddy until post-baby, with my frequent potty stops, walking breaks and turtle pace. :) I look for someone around the same pace, with a similar schedule, who lives as close by as possible, etc.

  8. I have a great running buddy...when the starts align and our work/kid/life schedules match up. She lives close by and always challenges me on my runs, but is a great conversationalist, so she's perfect. Good luck!

  9. I love to run alone, but it is nice to have someone to run with sometimes! Especially on easy runs. I think the best running partner is one that you can have easy conversation with, so it feels like you never have a long enough run together. And also, someone who is maybe just a touch faster to keep you on your toes :)

  10. I run as well and sometimes I think it would be great to have a running buddy that is just a little faster than me to challenge myself once a week. If I only had a more regular schedule!

  11. Hi Katie! I just found your blog (and used your coupon code for the STL Rock n' Roll 1/2...thanks so much!!). As a fellow (albeit much less experienced) STL runner, I am loving following along with you. I did the Go! relay this past weekend and had a ton of fun...I'm glad you were able to push through and end the race on an high note.
About the running buddies...have you ever tried to do any of the group runs that Big River, True Runner or Fleet Feet sponsor? I've done the Big River and instantly met some really friendly ladies who I ran with for the majority of the time. All Big River stores have these group runs on Mondays at 6 PM and have 3, 4 or 7 mile options. I live in the City so have run from the South City store at Devonshire and Macklind. You should come out some time!

  12. As someone who has lots of running partners (I'm very fortunate, I know) I like a similar pace (no ego fast pacing), someone who is low maintenance about when/where we meet, and then all the qualities I appreciate in "regular" friends: honesty, humor, acceptance. Do you have a running club nearby? That's where I met my posse years ago.

  14. I'd love to be your running buddy but you are probably too fast for me. Cute ad!

  15. Running buddies are great fun sometimes (solo runs can be equally awesome). I think I would have a hard time because I would want a running buddy that pushes me in fast paced runs and one that I can do a leisurely run with when I just need to move the legs. So ultimately I think you should look for someone that runs your same pace-ish so you can do those. Oh, also it's fun to have a chatty run and sometimes it's fun to just be quiet and push hard, so someone who is up for that. I know, I was no help at all. Sorry. ;)

  17. Hi Katie - I am in the same boat as Jayne above. I just found your blog too and also love the Big River Running group runs on Monday nights. I don't get to them very often because of my 15 month old, but I am planning on making them more. I live in the city as well and am in need of a running partner! I used to run with a big group, but none of them have kiddos and it makes scheduling really hard. I hope you do a follow up post as to how and if you found one! If I was posting an ad it would be looking for a running partner for early morning runs who goes at a 9:30 pace, does not take themselves too seriously, who likes to talk, and doesn't mind the occasional outburst of a good Lady Gaga song :) Maybe I should add "if you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain?" HA!
