Wine Country Day 2: Tons of Pictures

I totally forgot to share our second day in Wine Country.  On Father's Day weekend, my mom, sisters and I ran away to wine country (Sonoma) to celebrate my mom's retirement.  We use to do these trips yearly, back before the kids.  It has been a long time so it was great to get to go.

Our first day was spent in San Francisco, traveling to Sonoma and hitting up a couple wineries.  Day two started off with yoga at the Renaissance The Lodge at Sonoma.  It was really nice but my mind wandered the entire time thinking about the day!

Our first stop of the day was Copain Winery, an appointment only place that specializes in Pinot Noir.  I'll admit, I got our appointment time wrong so we only got 30 there but that was still enough time to enjoy some wine and beautiful scenery and the staff was extremely catering considering I botched the times.

After that we headed back down to see Chateau St. Jean.  I had heard so many great things about this winery that I had to see it.  The scenery didn't disappoint but the wine and the staff did.  It felt like a cattle call...come in...pay...by wine...leave. They were catering to lots of large groups so I'm assuming that was part of the reason but it was enough to make us not eve want to taste.  We explored the grounds then took off.

We ended up driving by this tiny tasting room that had a sign on the door that said "Sparkling Wine".  That was enough to make me want pull in and see what it was all about. At Muscardini, the sparking wine was good, good enough to make me buy a couple bottles.  We enjoyed hearing a little about the wine maker then it was off again!  Our last stop was completely unplanned.  We finally got to the point where we just wanted to sit and drink a bottle.  We came across Kenwood.  A name you probably recognize from the grocery store but we figured we would be able to find a light white wine but what we found was so much more!

We tasted some wines, we enjoyed a bottle, babysat an adorable dog and got a behind the scenes tour of their barrel room.  I wish you could've smelled this place.  It had an amazingly old aged smell.  I wish I could've bottled it.

After an amazing day of wine tasting, we ate dinner in downtown Sonoma then went back to the Lodge and enjoyed some downtime by the pool with a little more wine.

We rounded out our trip with a free hike that the The Lodge provided a guide for.  Not only were the views breath taking but our guide was awesome.  Jessica is also a yoga instructor and we had a great conversation about the various types of yoga.  Extremely interesting and she was just an amazing person.

Heading back into the airport we happened into Oakland for lunch.  Gorgeous!
Then it was time to say good-bye to northern California.  It was such an amazing trip.  I love spending time with my sisters and mom.  We are each other's best friends and we travel well together.

If you get the chance, head out to Sonoma.  It really is beautiful.  We will be back!

Have you ever traveled with your parents as adults?  Do you enjoy traveling with family?  Where would you like to go next?

  1. Both of my parents are gone but I do enjoy doing special trips with my husband. It's great to have memories with the ones you love so I'm glad you were able to get these memories together because that's what life is all about. Looks like you had a great time.

  4. This sounds like the perfect vacay! Wine and great views! We've traveled with my parents quite a bit - mostly road tripping to see my sister down in Texas. It's an interesting experience, but always a blast :)
